More modulating rolls. 7 stroke roll : rrllrrK ; 8ths, triplets, 16ths, 32nds, 16ths, triplets, 8ths. HiGh hAt on 2 & 4. Mark Guiliana’s DROP acronym is great for stretching out the simplest sticking- Dynamics, Rate, Orchestration, Phrasing. ~

Along the lines of an Alan Dawson interpretation of Syncopation, Danny Heifetz wrote this exercise out for me on a simple reading exercise from Louis Bellson’s... Swing the 8ths, fill the gaps with diddles. All even 8th note triplets. Keeping the written figure as accents and throwing them on the toms. P.4 summary, Modern Reading Text in 4/4.

Choppin ⛏ paradiddle-diddles across demisemiquavers. RLRRLL. Landing the first stroke on the toms plays the dotted quaver - count 1, the ‘a’ of 1, the ‘&’ of 2 and the ‘e’ of 3. Semiquaver groove in between. 🥁 what isolation?
